Sunday Stories: Taylor Piccolo

Sunday Stories is a series that showcases individuals who overcame some of their toughest times by focusing on fitness & wellness. We're honored to share with you Taylor's Story:

For as long as I could remember, I’ve been around health. Even though I was around health, it wasn’t the pretty side. My mother was diagnosed with Lupus shortly after I was born. Lupus is an autoimmune disease that causes your immune system to fight your own body instead of fighting for it. I watched the diagnosis, the remissions, the setbacks, and eventually the passing. I felt like I lost not only my best friend, but I also lost myself.

Although losing my mother was the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through, she gave me so much strength. A year after her passing, I started to lose control. I suffered severe depression, anxiety, insomnia. It was a dark period in my life and I was convinced I would never get out of it because I didn’t have her by my side to guide me. She gave me my strength, but when I lost her, I felt so weak.

Thanks to my amazing family, my beautiful friends, and the love of my life, I have such a strong support group there for me at all hours of the day. I am extremely blessed to have such an understanding unit surrounding me. So many individuals don’t have the support I’m lucky enough to have dealing with what we deal with on a daily basis. I want to have the opportunity to make someone’s day better. Even if it’s just greeting them by their name and asking how they are - you never know what someone is going through in that moment and you might have the chance to change their day for the better.
